To mark International Women in Cyber Day, we caught up with Catherine, our Head of Consultancy and very own Cyber Wonder Woman, to find out a little more about her journey in cyber security, what she loves about the industry and what advice she’d give to the next generation of women entering cyber.
What first attracted you to cyber security?
What drew me to cyber security was the chance to help people in a meaningful way. In a world where so much of our lives happens online, protecting people’s information and keeping them safe from cyber threats has never been more important. I find it incredibly fulfilling to know that the work I do can make a genuine difference to someone’s life. For me, cyber security isn’t just about technology, it’s about protecting people, building trust, and making the online world a safer place.
What’s one misconception about working in cyber you’d love to change?
It’s not always about being a “techy”. You don’t have to be able to code and know IT infrastructure, but you do need to be able to problem solve and be good at route cause analysis.
What advice would you give to a woman thinking about a career in cyber?
A career in cybersecurity can be both challenging and incredibly rewarding. You don’t need to come from a traditional technical background to succeed. Be open to learning, gain practical experience where you can, and have confidence in what you bring to the table. The industry needs people with different perspectives, and yours could make a real impact
What would your cyber superpower be?
Cyber Culture Champion is my superpower! My cyber superpower is fostering a security-first culture through empathy, communication, and collaboration, turning security awareness into security ownership.
